CuffsThe use of mechanical restraints’ can be justified in certain extreme circumstances. The pre-requisites for this course are that the delegate must have a valid physical intervention certificate, to prove that they have the ability to safely control someone and will only use the mechanical restraints where appropriate. They will also require a valid first aid at work certificate. This shows that they have a basic understanding of some of the injuries that may be sustained. Lastly they must prove sector competency where appropriate, to show that they have relevant experience within the industry.

Theory of Mechanical Restraints (handcuffs)

Basic anatomy and physiology, when to use handcuffs.

Practical use of Mechanical Restraints (handcuffs) 

Refreshment of level 2 Physical Intervention, the importance of searching and the importance of preparation; for example priming the cuffs and how to carry them properly.

Application techniques

How to efficiently retrieve your cuffs, types of application techniques for compliant and non-compliant suspects.

To be allowed to participate on this course you must have a valid 3 day First Aid at Work and Physical Intervention Level 2 Qualification. Course dates for the Mechanical Restraints course are available upon request and require a minimum of six candidates for the course to be held.
